Data for Rural Analysis ERS produces and maintains a number of data sets that are used by policymakers and researchers to identify and describe rural and urban areas. Measures of rurality such as the Rural-Urban Continuum Codes, Urban Influence Codes classify counties based on criteria such as population size, adjacency to a metropolitan area. Among residents of rural counties in border states, older adults, age 65 years or above, residing in rural border counties were less likely to receive a flu shot than were rural older adults in non-border counties [rural border adults, %, rural non-border adults, %]. Border disparities were not present in urban counties.
